The Center

This project was inspired by the coveted Juvet Landscape Hotel. This hotel has been used in some of my favorite movies and tv series’ like ‘Succession’ and ‘Ex-Machina’. The combination of earthy toned furniture, natural architecture and landscaping makes this my favorite guest room. The Juvet Landscape Hotel, located in Valldal near the town of Åndalsnes in northwestern Norway, is my favorite guest room for many reasons. Rather than stacking guest rooms in a single large building, the hotel distributes them throughout the terrain as small individual houses. This innovative design allows each room to offer a unique view of the landscape, which changes with the seasons, weather, and time of day. No two rooms overlook each other, providing complete privacy and immersion in nature.

Each room is constructed using massive wood with minimal exterior insulation, supported by slender steel rods drilled into the rock. This design leaves the existing topography and vegetation almost untouched, emphasizing sustainability and conservation. The use of glass set against slim steel frames creates a seamless connection between the interior and the stunning natural surroundings.

This thoughtful approach to architecture and design respects the natural environment and enhances the beauty of the site. By preserving the topography and minimizing intervention, the Juvet Landscape Hotel establishes a sustainable connection between structure and site, highlighting the harmony between man-made and natural elements.
